These Bad Ass woman are legends in their own right! Take a look at some of our favourite rocking female fronted bands. Although some no longer perform, we have access to their music thanks to the wonders of technology, so add them to your playlist now or better still, go out and grab their album, you will not regret it!
Blondie - Debbie Harry
With Debbie Harry at the helm, Blondie sold millions of records back in the 70s and 80s including hit singles like “The Tide is High”, before breaking up in 1982. However, the punk-icon has been back several times and the group have reformed and still perform.
Joan Jett & The Blackhearts - Joan Jett
The music career of Joan Jett began when she was a founding member of The Runaways originally rhythm guitarist but later became lead vocalist. The band went their separate ways in 1979. After success with the runaways including their hit song “Cherry Bomb” Joan went on to form her own band Joan Jett and the Blackhearts. The band is still touring until this day and Joan is considered a musical icon!
The Carpenters - Karen Carpenter
American vocal and instrumental sister and brother duo signed to A&M records in 1969 where they went on to produce some hits such as ‘Weve only just begun’ and ‘Top of the world’, but sadly came to an end in 1983 as a result of Karens death from heart failure brought on by complications of anorexia.
The Pretenders - Chrissie Hynde
In 1978 Chrissie Hynde formed her band The Pretenders who were inducted in to the rock n roll hall of fame in 2005. In 2014 she launched her solo career ant the Pretenders have not played together since 2014 however it was recently announced that they would be touring with Stevie Nicks at the end of 2016.
Eurythmics - Annie Lennox
Anne Lennox rose to fame in the 80’s when she and former band member Dave A. Stewart (The Tourists) joined forces to form the Eurythmics. With hits like “Sweet dreams (are made of this)”, they quickly became one of the most successful duos of all time. Annie Lennox launched her solo career in 1992.
No Doubt - Gwen Stefani
For the younger generations, they will be well aware of Gwen Stefani but not so aware that she was once in No Doubt. The band formed in 1986 and had well known hits such as ‘Just a Girl’ and ‘Don’t Speak’. Later Stefani decided to go solo and even try her hand within the fashion industry.
Hole - Courtney Love
As well as dating Kurt Cobain, Courtney Love was also hitting the headlines in the nineties for singing in Hole. Although Love has made it clear that they will not perform again, there is a tremendous back-catalogue to enjoy today.
Garbage - Shirley Manson
Reaching the heights back in the late 1990s, Shirley Manson lead Garbage to a number of hit singles including ‘Push It’, ‘When I Grow Up’ and ‘Only Happy When It Rains’. Known for her rebellious streak and red hair, Manson and the group have taken breaks over the years but still tour today.
Evanescence - Amy Lee
Forming in 1995 in the US, Amy Lee has been rocking stages with Ben Moody for many years now. Perhaps one of the most underrated bands on this list, Evanescence have a knack of creating emotionally charged melodies with unique lyrics.
Halestorm - Lzzy Hale
Celebrating twenty years next year, Halestorm formed in the US. The uber talented lead vocalist and guitarist Lzzy Hale co-founded the band. Halestorm are still going strong and are currently touring.
In This Moment - Maria Brink
Led by Maria Brink, In This Moment have release five albums in a career spanning eleven years and still perform today. Although there has been a number of band member changes over the years, Maria has remained a constant throughout and in that time has received awards such as “Rock Goddess of the Year” and “Hottest Chick in Metal
The Pretty Reckless - Taylor Momsen
Pretty Reckless always seem to get it right regardless of the setting. Starting in the TV show Gossip Girl and even The Grinch before that, Taylor Momsen has a beautiful voice and knows how to rock. Check out their live and acoustic music to really hear their talent, this band rocks!
Butcher Babies - Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey
With front-women Heidi Shepherd and Carla Harvey, Butcher Babies formed in 2010 and saw their debut album reach number three on the Billboard Heatseeker Chart. Since then, the group has released a second EP as well as a second album.
Heaven The Axe - Phoebe Pinnock
Based in Australia, Heaven the Axe released their debut album in 2011 and have since toured with Rose Tattoo and supported many bands including Butcher Babies. Lead singer Phoebe Pinnock is a force to be reckoned with, this chick is as hot as they come & damn she can rock!
